Format of summer institute :
The summer institute is intended for graduate and post-graduate students
from the participating disciplines, and for faculty members, researchers,
engineers in human factors, etc.
The theme
of the summer institute, CATEGORISATION, will be studied through the
lens of the participating disciplines. Each presentation will be addressed
to all the participants in the summer institute; there will be neither
parallel sessions nor disciplinary sessions, so that the participants
from all disciplines can interact at all times.
Learning
material will be presented through conferences, courses, group discussions
and poster sessions.
The first
presentation(s) of each day will consist in a state of the art talk
on the topic of the day. The other presentations will focus on current
issues bearing on this topic. The last daily sessions will consist
of a discussants paper on the presentations of the day.
Other activities
such as poster presentations by the participants, book exhibits, demonstrations
in laboratories and book launches may be held out of class hours.
Due to
its international character, the summer institute will be entirely
in English.
Academic
activities :
The summer
institute will consist of 2 courses of 45 hours which is equivalent
to 2 courses of 3 credits each. It will comprise 10 days of full time
academic activities:
40 hours of lecturing and 5 hours of discussion per week during 2
weeks.
All participants
will receive the following :
a) a summary of each presentation
b) a course packet with complementary articles for each of the presentations.
Students
who wish to get credits for the courses will receive an evaluation
on the basis of a paper. The paper will bear on a topic related to
CATEGORISATION. Students will chose their own topics.

requirements :
Admission
requirements are :
a) being registered in a graduate or post-graduate program related
to the participating disciplines.
OR
b) holding a graduate or post-graduate degree in one of the participating
disciplines and working as a professionnal in this field.
Registration
fees :
There is
one registration for the 2 weeks. Registration fees vary according
to students affiliation. They are lower for those who register prior
to March 1st 2003. The following amounts are given in Canadian dollars

Credits :
Students
who wish to get credits for the 2 institute courses will register
in the 2 courses of their respective programs identified on the registration
sheet.
For professionnals
and students registered in continuing education, each week is equivalent
to 3 credits. Because each day of class is independent, students can
decide on which day (s)he will attend. These students will receive
a participation certificate for the number of hours of attendance.
For members
of the American Psychological Association, each week of the summer
institute is equivalent to 15 CPE hours.
